2010 DEACON MINISTRIES and CHAIRS
Caregiving
Care is provided for St. Mark members and friends with special needs. We provide this care on behalf of our congregation through Stephen Ministers, Barnabas Companions, meals, worship tape delivery, cards and phone calls. The Deacons provide this out-reach service based on prayer requests and needs brought to the attention of the St. Mark staff.
Circle of Concern
St. Mark contributes resources such as food, toiletries, school supplies and toys to the Circle of Concern to assist low income families and individuals in the Parkway, Rockwood & Valley Park school districts who have experienced an emergency. The Deacons serve the Circle by regularly attending leadership meetings and communicating the needs of Circle back to the St. Mark congregation. The Deacons distribute the yellow "Meal a Month" bags and collect food items on the table outside of the pastor's office.
Clothing
St. Mark accepts clothing of all kinds in the Clothing Drop Box on the west parking lot to be distributed to needy people in the St. Louis metropolitan area. All wearable clothing and shoes will be distributed to ministries such as Isaiah 58.
Communion
The Deacons provide communion service to the congregation by arranging the preparation, serving and clean-up duties on Saturdays, Sundays and special occasions when communion is served.
Communications
This committee publicizes the Deacons programs, missions and areas of concern through articles in the church bulletin, monthly Messenger, and on the web site.
Creation
This is a Presbyterian program designed to make our church and community more environmentally friendly. A stragetic plan is being developed to help St Mark "Go Green".
Design
This committee is currently renovating several rooms in the church and urges other groups to "adopt a room".
Emergency Action
The pastor, the moderator, vice moderator and the treasurer act on requests for funds to pay or to help pay utility bills, rent, etc. This Committee is authorized by the Board to grant assistance for each case. Contact a pastor for assistance.
Flowers
The Deacons pick up and deliver the flowers and rosebuds for our worship services. The Deacons also handle your donations for Easter lilies and Christmas poinsettias, delivering many of these flowers to older members of the congregation and those who are unable to attend worship.
Health and Special Concerns
Your contributions to the St. Mark Blood Drive are coordinated by this committee. The Deacons also ensure the defibrillator and other first aid equipment and training are available and kept up-to-date.
Shelter
St. Mark serves under-privileged families by donating time and resources to charities that assist in their housing needs and education. The Deacons work with charities including Habitat for Humanity and Beyond Housing.
Transportation
The St. Mark van is used every Sunday to drive members to worship who are unable to provide their own transportation. The Deacons offer these members friendly and courteous pick-up and drop-off service. Please contact the church office at (636) 394-2233 if you need a ride to worship.
